Cultural genocide refers to the deliberate destruction of the cultural heritage of a people or nation for political, military, religious, ideological, ethnical, or racial reasons.
The shrines of three of Pakistan’s most popular Sufi Saints of Ishmaelite origin, Sayyid ‘Ali ibn Uthman al-Hujwiri, ‘Abd Allah Shah Ghazi, and Farid ud-Din Ma’sud have been targeted and attacked recently by Wahabi extremists. The Centre for Ishmaelite Research and Policy joins the people of Pakistan in condemning these acts of cultural genocide and calls on the government of Pakistan to do more to protect sites of Ishmaelite heritage in Pakistan.
